Step 2 of 5 · Who am I?

Step 2 · The Gospel

Who am I?

The Bible tells two true things about you that you have to hold at the same time. Either one alone will mislead you.

1. You are precious.

You were made in the image of God. That means you carry inherent dignity — not because of what you do, what you've achieved, or what others think. Because of who made you.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27

2. You are broken.

You also know — if you're honest — that something is wrong inside you. You lose your temper. You lie when it's easier. You want things you shouldn't want. The Bible has a name for it: sin. Not just bad behavior, but a deep bent of the heart away from God.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23

This is not God being harsh. It's God being truthful. And the consequence is real: sin separates us from a holy God, and the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you.
Isaiah 59:2

Pause: We don't need a slightly better version of ourselves. We need a rescuer. That's where Jesus comes in.
