Set Your Minds Above
“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
Reflect
Paul's instruction to the Colossian believers, and to us, is a profound call to reorient our entire perspective. Having been "raised with Christ" through faith, we are no longer bound by the fleeting concerns of this world. Our true identity and citizenship are heavenly. Therefore, our affections, aspirations, and thoughts should reflect this reality. When we consciously seek "things that are above," we are pursuing Christ Himself and His kingdom values – truth, righteousness, love, and holiness. This isn't an escapist fantasy, but a robust commitment that transforms how we live here and now. It grounds us in an eternal hope, providing clarity and purpose amidst earthly distractions and trials. Let us meditate on His majesty and allow our minds to be captivated by the glory of Christ, seated at the right hand of God.
Consider
What earthly things often consume your mind and attention? How does consciously setting your mind on Christ and "things above" change your perspective on these daily concerns?
Pray
Heavenly Father, thank You for raising me with Christ and granting me a heavenly inheritance. Forgive me for often allowing my mind to be fixated on temporal worries and earthly desires. Help me, by Your Spirit, to actively seek and set my mind on things above, where Christ reigns. May my affections be reordered and my heart fixed on You alone, so that I might live more fully for Your glory today and always. Amen.
