A free 45-minute Bible lesson on God's wisdom from Proverbs, with readings, discussion questions and a closing prayer. Great for groups or on your own.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."— Proverbs 3:5-6

Step 1 · 5 min

Start here

Who is the wisest person you know? What makes them wise?

Step 2 · 10 min

Read together

Main passage: Proverbs 3:1-12

  • Proverbs 3:1-12 — Trust God and he will guide your path.
  • Proverbs 1:1-7 — Wisdom starts with respecting God.
  • James 1:5 — Ask God for wisdom — he gives generously.

Step 3 · 10 min

What it means

  1. 1. Wisdom starts with trust

Proverbs doesn't say "figure it all out." It says trust the Lord with all your heart. Wisdom is a relationship before it is a skill.

  2. 2. Don't lean on yourself

Our own understanding is limited. God sees the whole road; we see one step. Wise people ask for directions.

  3. 3. God promises to guide

"He will make straight your paths." When we acknowledge him in all our ways — big and small — he leads us.

Step 4 · 10 min

Talk about it

  1. What is the difference between being smart and being wise?
  2. What decision are you facing right now where you need God's wisdom?
  3. What does "acknowledge him in all your ways" look like on a normal Tuesday?
  4. Why do you think God wants us to ask for wisdom instead of just giving it?

Step 5 · 5 min

Live it this week

  • Read one chapter of Proverbs each day this week.
  • Before your next decision, pray Proverbs 3:5-6 first.
  • Ask a wise Christian you know for advice about something.

Memory verse: Proverbs 3:5-6

Step 6 · 5 min

Close in prayer

Lord, I need your wisdom, not just my own ideas. Teach me to trust you with all my heart and to include you in every part of my life. Make my path straight. Amen.
